Largest Contentful Paint
This measures how long the main content of a page takes to appear. Aim for under 2.5 seconds.
Large hero images, slow hosting, and render-blocking files are the usual causes of a poor score.
A useful starting point
Check the Core Web Vitals report in Google Search Console to see which pages real visitors find slow.
Interaction to Next Paint
This tracks how quickly a page responds when someone taps or clicks. Heavy JavaScript is the most common reason pages feel sluggish.
Trim unused scripts and delay non-essential ones until after the page has loaded.
Cumulative Layout Shift
This scores how much content jumps around while the page loads. Shifting buttons frustrate visitors and cause accidental clicks.
Reserve space for images, ads, and embeds so the layout stays stable.
Your practical checklist
- Find your slowest pages in Search Console.
- Optimise and correctly size hero images.
- Defer scripts that are not needed immediately.
- Set width and height on all images.
- Re-check the report after a few weeks.
